how to keep cool
by: Anonymous

My daughter plays 12U travel ball in North Carolina, so summertime can be brutal with the heat AND humidity. I have a small cooler that is used solely for the Frogg Toggs. I put ice and a little water in it, and all the girls can drop their Frogg Toggs in it before the game (just make sure the toggs are marked with their initials so they don't get mixed up). The cooler stays in the dugout, and I dump out the dirty water between games and put fresh water and ice in it during the day (yes the water will get dirty, but that's part of the game!!).

Also, my daughter is a catcher, so I am always looking for help in keeping her cool. I found this stuff called Instant Chill -- it's a liquid that you can pour into a cooler of ice and water and it has a peppermint scent -- it really opens up your skin and helps you to cool down. You soak a rag or Frogg Togg in it. They have a website, just search "Instant Chill".

I also have heard of parents putting a little ammonia in their frogg togg cooler -- I have never done this, but I have been told that the ammonia also quickly cools the players down. You can certainly look this up online. Again, I have never done this but I know of some who have.

Cool days

Have the coach get a small generator that will power a fan. This helps in the dug out when the wind isn't blowing. We get a cooler and fill it with water and small towels. We keep it cold by filling an empty 2 liter soda bottle with water and freezing it. Its a cheap way to keep the water cold without having to use ice. Get spray bottles and spray your face down and stand in front of the fan.

a way to stay cool

I play softball and what I've found that worked best is Frogg Toggs. They are like rubber clothes and stay cold all the time no matter what the temperature is. All you do is stick it in cold water and ring it out. You can buy them at most sports stores.
